My name is Sandra McFaul. I am a McKenzie Physiotherapist - which means I have specialised in the McKenzie Method of Physiotherapy. It was developed by New Zealand Physiotherapist, Robin McKenzie back in the 1950's.
I am one of only 15 physiotherapists in Australia with ADVANCED training in the McKenzie Method. You can check out trained McKenzie therapists here. Physiotherapists can have basic training which means they are credntialed or the advanced level which means the Diploma.
But what does that mean to you? Well, many therapists say they "do McKenzie" but unless your therapist has done the basic training and successfully completed an exam, then you will be unsure of the level of McKenzie treatment you will get. That means you may not get better and you may think that McKenzie doesn't work.
If the McKenzie Method is not suitable for you, a trained McKenzie therapist will be able to tell you within 2 -3 sessions. They will not continue to treat you if you are not getting better.
So what should you expect when you attend a McKenzie therapist? Well, I will look at your movements and posture. What I find is some movements and posture make you better and some make you worse. The aim of the "treatment" is to find one key exercise that you are able to do simply during the day. This acts like painful wihtout the side-effects of medication.
How long does it take to get better seeing a McKenzie physio?Well, on average I see people 4-5 times. Sometimes I see people only twice and on some occasions I see them 7-8 times. I will be able to give you an idea during your first consult.
So, if you are sick and tired pedlling the treatment cycle for your lower back pain or neck pain, do yourself a favour and seek treatment from a "trained McKenzie therapist."
I am located in Stanmore, the Inner West of Sydney.

Dear Sandra
I want to take this opportunity to say a big thank you for helping me take control of my pain.
I have been a back pain sufferer for 31 years and this year the pain has been at its worst. So much so that I have wanted my leg amputated hoping for some relief. Instead I found your website and I'm so glad I did. My pain was virtually eliminated within minutes if doing one of the exercises.
I have continued with the exercises and I feel that I now know what I can do to help myself if and when the pain comes back.
I wish I had known about the McKenzie method years ago so that I did not have to suffer this much pain.
Once again thank you so much. You have given my life back.
Yours sincerely
Fran Bishop - Campsie, Sydney NSW
